Blocking

Blocking the board is a defensive strategy to reduce the number of high scoring plays available by making parallel plays or other plays which do not easily offer high scoring opportunities. It is most effective when deployed against stronger players after taking an early lead and is usually a result of a weaker player's determination to hold onto a lead at all costs. A successful use of this strategy requires a more or less complete knowledge of two and three letter words.
