TWL98 Word Lists

The TWL98 word lists above contain words acceptable in Scrabble as played in the US, Canada, Israel and Thailand. TWL98 is the official Scrabble word list for those nations allowing players to adjudicate on played words. The entire TWL98 word list is based on the Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary published by Merriam Webster.

TWL98 is also compatible with Yahoo Literati as the game played by thousands on Yahoo's website everyday uses a dictionary similar to the OSPD(Official Scrabble Players Dictionary) for word checking. The OSPD only differs from TWL98 by having around 200 words considered offensive removed and by not listing words longer than nine letters.

Hotspots is distributed with a word list known as SOWPODS by default. However, it is easy to change to TWL98. The word list can be downloaded in zip file format and set to be the dictionary used by Hotspots for word adjudication - just follow these instructions.

Note: A zip file is a compressed version of a file which requires special software to extract the data. There are many freeware and shareware programs available which read zip files, see below for some examples:
